Sexual Assault Assistance Program

Advocates are available on a 24-hour basis to respond to requests from law enforcement agencies which have a sexual assault victim reporting a crime.  The advocate provides comfort, support, and assistance to the victim throughout the law enforcement investigation.  When the case is referred to the State Attorney's Office for prosecution, the Advocate remains with the victim throughout the entire Criminal Justice System serving as a liaison for the victim.

Advocates are also available on a 24-hour basis to assist victims who call the Rape Crisis Line (1-800-569-RAPE) or (1-800-569-7273) and either do not want to report the offense to law enforcement or are unsure about what to do.  It is not necessary to report to law enforcement to receive assistance.  All requests for assistance remain confidential.  The Victim Services staff respect the rights of victims to take control of their own lives and to choose whom they want to involve.
